Working from a meditative state of action, I let inner vision guide me to communicate a feeling or state of being. Montgomery's approach to abstract painting is founded on an exploration of colour and composition. She paints with a bold use of colour and the energy of gesture, drawing inspiration from her travels, both inner and outer. Her paintings are in many ways, inner landscapes, portraying an active vitality and the expression of spirit.
Trudy's work often reveals multiple viewpoints of landscape, often within a single painting, sometimes encompassing both a birds-eye view of an aerial landscape and a cross-section through the landscape. Other paintings evoke a sense of being at the threshold of another realm - portals into a world beyond. Trudy was born in England and has lived in France, New Zealand and, until 2012, for 14 years, in California before returning to live in the UK. She credits the light and space she experience while living in Venice, California, as the most influential in her tendency towards scale and pure colour. She currently lives in Cornwall.
