SEDUCTIVE COLOUR New paintings by Beryl Robinson Ceramics by Janice Tchalenko 7th November - 5th December 2015 Lane House Arts Gallery, Bath
Subtle layering of colour and innovative glazing techniques make for an eye-catching combination of work in this new exhibition.
We are delighted to present new paintings by Beryl Robinson and vessels by ceramicist Janice Tchalenko from their respective London studios. Working with seductive colour, both practitioners are regularly shown and collected, have exhibited in museums and galleries internationally and can be found in collections in Britain and abroad

BERYL ROBINSON In these new paintings, space is the subject. Dark flowers float on surface marks; lemons come into focus surrounded by palpable space. The tidal Thames is evoked by layers of transparent colour drawing the eye into deeper water. Through the use of unusual format (the square and elongated rectangle) the paintings have stability and quiet contemplation at their heart. Here the canvas is not a window onto the world but an object in its own right. The paintings are close in tone, and the colour holds the spectator as the eye becomes used to the subtle shifts.
Lane House Arts was honoured to show a range of vessels and bowls by world-renowned British ceramicist, Janice Tchalenko specially selected for this exhibition. Her work is shown internationally and is in many collections in Britain and abroad. We were saddened to hear of her death in July 2018 and were grateful to have got to know and work with her.
